still working on the revamp to my portfolio site this year, and am incorporating the same sort of look into the blog slowly as well. after looking at so many colors all day (and lots of nights) it’s nice to see lots of black every once in a while. Reminds me of the back of my eyelids when I’m sleeping. sleep…………yeah, I like doing that every once in a while too. Now a deviation from the normal, laid back, relaxing posts that you’re used to from me.
I’ve been pretty quiet about a lot of the badmouthing and trashtalking going on the last few weeks/months etc…..about Platinum Studios. And rightly so, I’m just coloring a book for them, I didn’t create anything that they own the rights to, I don’t have any plans to submit projects to them any time soon. But you know, this is how I make a living. How I pay my bills. How I help support my wife and kids. So it does get to me when people say that they’re “looking out for the creators” or that, “they don’t mean any harm to the creators involved with Platinum” Guess what people, you ARE doing harm to us. You’re tarnishing the image and reputation of one of my best and biggest clients. You’re actively trying to promote animosity and ill will towards a company that is helping me make a living. You are, whether intentional or not, potentially hurting the sales of book(s) that I have a great investment of time, love and commitment in, and which I WANT to sell well.

Long month. Vacation was a nice break though. Once I got back it was a mad rush to finish up the colors on Pistolfist: Revolutionary Warrior #2 though. Thankfully I got it done sooner than later, and off to the letterer. Issue 1 comes out next month from Alias Comics. It’s been getting FANTASTIC reviews and pub, the people at Diamond Distribution seem to LOVE this book as they included a write up on issue 2 in the latest issue of their Previews magazine.
Other news…..I’m going to be coloring the upcoming mini-series, Hero By Night from Platinum Studios. Winner of the Comic Book Challenge competition at the San Diego Comic Con this year, created and drawn by none other than DJ Coffman. Long time buddy, and also the guy I worked on my FIRST comic with back in like 1998. LONG time ago now it seems, but eventually it shows that hard work pays off.
Coloring up the monthly comic installment Enemies of the State, which is scheduled to premiere in the October issue it looks like now, of The Source magazine (the largest Hip-Hop music and culture magazine in the world)
Whew……coloring another superhero book written/created by author C.E. Murphy over the course of the next month, can’t divulge too much info on this one yet though, suffice it to say the artist has a very McFarlane feel to his work. Early McFarlane though, reminiscent of his stuff on his own Spiderman title when he was still with Marvel.
Also working on a couple of digital paintings for Fantasy Flight Games’, A Game of Thrones CCG.
Not to mention, getting ready for the kids to go back to school, other design work, and more and more coloring work. more updates in the next couple of days hopefully with some new art, and also ruminations on my thoughts about turning 30 here in a couple of days.
