Dragon Cross issue 4 painted cover!!!!

done, for the most part.  I want to tweak a few things yet (mostly on the horns atop his head) before it goes to print, but I’ve got plenty of time to do that. Pencil sketch by Rob Richardson, digital paints by me.   enjoy!  on to some page work now :D

Updated dragon painting, work in progress

coming along nicely, almost half done. I think the fact that Wizards of the Coast is advertising in this book is spurring me to really knock it out of the park. I’m waiting for clarification on a few things from my publisher before I start in the figure in the middle, but I like where things are going. :)

dragon painting work in progress

here’s an EARLY work in progress pic of the digitally painted cover I’m doing for Dragon Cross issue 4 over top of a pencil sketch by creator/penciler Rob Richardson.  I’m also saving screen shots to put together a step by step tutorial from when I’m finished.  I’m ATTEMPTING to use as few brushes as possible, and also trying my hand at doing the majority of the painting on ONE layer just like a regular canvas.  I know I can see what this will look like when it’s done, and I can’t wait to get to that point so everyone else can too :D  enjoy!

Creator owned project coming soon!

That’s right, a creator owned project ENTIRELY by me is coming soon.  Or rather coming in August 2008.  That’s the tentative release date I have in place so far.  A full blown teaser will be released later this fall, or early winter.  Until then, here is a SMALL peek at what’s in store, I’ll drop a few more tiny little things like this before the teaser is released later this year as well.  It’s BIG, it’s AMBITIOUS, it’s border line INSANE-likely as not.  But, it’s all mine. :)  And if it wasn’t border line insane, then I don’t know if I could call it my own.  enjoy this small peek.  More to come!!!

An update from the studio, small image extravaganza.

Lots of busy days and nights the last few weeks. here’s a look at a few of the things I’ve got going on right now (a page from the upcoming KISS 4K #1 comic book, a CD cover design, RPG card painting, a digital concept painting, and a sketch from my sketchbook) :) short and sweet, I won’t spoil it with too many words.

World’s Best Zucchini Bread!

My wife makes the best zucchini bread ever (nobody tell my grandmother that though) The new puppy is getting pretty rambunctious around here this week, I think she’s finally getting comfortable and NOW we’re going to be in trouble. Still, she’s cute and that makes up for a lot of stuff :D Need to take the kids into school here in a bit, they don’t start until like 9:45 on Wednesdays. Then I have a brochure to finish dropping some text into, a cover design revision for a book, and of course….comics to color. Although I MAY get around to starting in on the final paints for some cards I’m doing for Fantasy Flight Games, A Game of Thrones, CCG game. It’s based on the George R.R. Martin novels, which I admiteddly haven’t ever read. Being a huge fan of the fantasy genre, and having read a LOT of stuff that sort of surprises me. So I may have to see if I can’t track down the books and rectify that at some point. Seems like a pretty interesting world and storyline from all the background information I’ve read researching for my artwork. well…more coffee and then back to the real world (or at least back to MY world, not really sure how REAL most people would call it) Here are the final pencils that my first card is going to be based on, the painting part is where the REAL fun is though :D

Black rider digital painting

Just finished this painting this afternoon. Tutorial pics are all saved, and some time in the near future I’ll be writing a step by step for this, from pencil sketch, to finished product. There’s also a desktop wallpaper for download in the download section of the blog (click up top) I’m thinking of having my print gallery up and running before the end of the year and then this will be available as a print to buy too (although if you REALLY like it, drop me an email and I’ll see what I can do) :D fun stuff!

character study for the week.

I think I’m going to start doing weekly character studies to improve some skills, I won’t post all of them most likely, only the ones that are passable as decent or better :) One hour deadlines on these, aim is for a pencil sketch, some sort of storytelling pose, and minimal color. The first one turned out fairly decent, I did this yesterday.

New CCG card game project on the horizon!

I’ve come to terms on a new year long commission for a games company to produce 250 pieces of full color artwork for a set of cards they are shipping in the summer of 2007. It’s going to cover a wide variety of subject matter, so it’s a great project to really build a powerful portfolio with. I’ll be starting in May on said project. Lots of cool fantasy type work awaits. It’s going to be fun building an entire world that people are going to be exploring, and will really push my abilities with painting in Photoshop. Should be great fun.

Also on the horizon in May some time is the new comic book GOLDEN from Alias Enterprises. It’s a new superhero book they’re launching for which I’ll be supplying the colors for. It’s going to be one heck of a fun summer working on such a variety of cool projects. I still have a lot of other comic projects occupying time right now, Pistolfist: Revolutionary Warrior, Chronicles of a Bounty Hunter, Far From Faith, and the ultra top secret, never before mentioned, Seeds of War. whew. sort of explains my lack of updating lately. :D
